I'm releasing a version of spell much like the UNIX version.
You can pick it up at http://www.city-net.com/~quimby/ .
Here's the READ.ME:
spell: a mostly traditional implementation of the UNIX spelling checker.
Copyright 1999 Nathan Scott Thompson ( quimby at city-net dot com )
You may use this according to the GNU Public License: see http://www.gnu.org
VERSION:
This is the first beta release.
Consider especially the word lists and the stop list likely to change.
FILES:
depod - pod filter
deroff - troff filter
spell - spelling checker
spellin - add words to hashed word list
spellout - compare words to hashed word list
Spelling.pm - support module
english - base word list, stemmed
american - American word list, stemmed
british - British word list, stemmed
stoplist - stop list
build.bat - script to build the hashed word lists
The word lists derive from those provided with Ispell 3.1 by Geoff Kuenning
(see http://fmg-www.cs.ucla.edu/geoff/ispell.html).
I deleted some apparent errors and reduced the lists by stemming.
Nothing has been done to prevent overstemming (reduction to a valid but
unrelated stem word.)
INSTALLATION:
The file build.bat is provided to build the hashed word files.
It's a DOS batch file but works fine as a UNIX shell script.
The resulting files are named hlista, hlistb and hstop.
spell expects these files to be in /usr/dict; alternatively
you can supply another path in the SPELLDIR environment variable.
