Installation considerations specific to the VMS operating system.
You will of course need a VMS version of GZIP, and VMSTAR, just to
unpack the kit.
In lieu of 'make', you need either MMS or MMK. The former should
be available from Hewlett-Packard, but the last time I priced it
(quite a while back, before Compaq bought DEC and H-P bought
Compaq) it was fairly pricey. MMK is free, and available from
http://www.madgoat.com/mmk.html
Since the package is pure Perl, you can also install by copying
General.pm to the appropriate place in your @INC directories,
creating directory Games and Sudoku if necessary and placing
General.pm in the latter.
The executable needs to be run through the following (or something
equivalent) to be useful:
$fn = 'sudokug'
$fhi = FileHandle->new ("<$fn") or die <<eod;
Error - Unable to open $fn
$!
eod
$fho = FileHandle->new (">$fn.com") or die <<eod;
Error - Unable to open $fn.com
$!
eod
print $fho "$Config{startperl}\n";
while (<$fhi>) {print $fho $_}
This needs to be executed from the bin directory of the expanded
kit. Place the resultant .com file in a directory that is in your
DCL$PATH. Or, place it with the other Perl scripts, and make sure
your DCL$PATH includes this directory.
